How to write great meta tags?

A good meta description is short, concise, and descriptive. It should include a call to action that encourages the reader to click through to your website.

-Short and to the point. It should be less than 155 characters and tell what the post is about.

-Specific. It should include the name of the website and any relevant keywords that might help people find it.

-Listicle-worthy. If you're posting a listicle, the meta description should talk about why it's useful or interesting.


Why is meta description so important?


Meta descriptions are important because they help search engines understand what your content is about. This is especially helpful if you have a lot of content that's similar to each other.

For example, let's say you're writing a blog post about how to make a delicious cheesecake. When people search for "how to make a delicious cheesecake," it will show up on the first page of search results for that phrase. If you have a meta description that says "Learn how to make an incredibly delicious cheesecake with this easy recipe!" then people who click on your result will immediately know what they're going to get from your article without having to read any further.


A meta description is not helpful in SEO Ranking but it will help in increasing the Click-Through Rate

1) Keep it under 155 characters
Meta Description should be under 155 characters because Google doesn't measure characters it measures pixels google cut off the meta description after some width 155 characters are just a benchmark to users so keep it under 155 characters.


2) Make it specific and relevant
The meta description should be specific, descriptive and relevant to that particular page. It should not be generic or duplicated. It should be beneficial to the customer.


3)Don't deceive searchers
Don't deceive or misguide the user. Eg In your meta you describe offers, a discount which is actually not available. Also entering too many keywords in meta description also causes lower ranking.


4) Gives a solution or benefit to the user
Tell the user why should you read the post. Tell them the benefits of reading this post or page so the user automatically clicks on your link.


5) Use action-oriented language
Action-oriented means you should include a call-to-action in your meta description. For eg. Learn how to write great meta So the user will know that he/she is learning something from that page.
